Over the summer St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters helped support two of the food pantries in our network. The barbeques were held in the Bronx and in New Rochelle, N.Y. One was held in a Community Hall decorated in a red white and blue theme.

Volunteers and staff planned and prepared the food serving over 500 needy families in the two events. Favorites were hotdogs and hamburgers cooked on outdoor grills followed by scrumptious desserts.

While waiting to dine, the children were entertained with games. Since it was a gorgeous day everyone smiled and were happy to be there.

One location had a dual purpose: they combined the party with their regular food distribution to their clients. And at the end of the day, our clients were so happy to have shared this event with their families and friends.

The volunteer staff in New Rochelle poses as the BBQ briquettes heat up. Once the BBQ is ready to go, the men take their positions at the grill!

Before the picnic, decorations are part of the many touches that are made to make this a special event. During the picnic, those same patriotic decorations remind everyone what a great country we live in as fellow Americans have come together to provide everything.

In New Rochelle, the volunteer staff line up to fill trays of food that they will serve. All ages of people are involved in the work and the festivities!

St Francis Food Pantries always receives heartfelt appreciation and praise from the people that we serve. "Thank you St. Francis Food Pantries for caring about us!"

In the Bronx, before the food is served, the people gather to pray.
Food serving tables were set up outside for the impending crowd.
Food preparation volunteers help cook and serve the meal.
The Bronx Director told us that "this was the first year they offered a summer picnic and the people were ecstatic!"
St Francis Food Pantries believes that food gathers people together where friendships are made and stories are shared.
