The "Annual Dinner for the Needy" sponsored by St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters was served to over 500 homeless and shelter residents of New York City. This delicious hot meal was held in the Church Hall at St. John the Baptist Church in midtown Manhattan. Over 40 volunteers coordinated by June Tang-How prepared the meal, along with the help of the Friary chef from St. John's Church. A delicious pasta or chicken and rice dinner, with vegetables, salad and dessert was the featured menu. The meal was served "restaurant style" to the guests seated at decorated tables. The dedicated volunteer "waiters" made everyone feel welcome. Live music added to the festive mood of the Church Hall, and many guests found themselves singing along. The guests also received donated hats, scarves, gloves and winter coats, and every child received a special toy. Great food and an afternoon of fun and surprises was enjoyed by everyone for this wonderful annual event.
