Over 120 children and their grandparents attended the St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters annual "Back to School Picnic" held at Orchard Beach in the Bronx. Consolidated Carpet and Innovative Communications Concepts, Inc. presented the picnic and Macy's was the food sponsor. Deb van der Heyden, one of our past August Tea Honorees, supplied all the school items in the backpacks which were distributed.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. made a surprise visit to visit the guests and spoke to the students encouraging them to do well in school.

The children were delighted with a myriad of activities. They played games and enjoyed the face painting by volunteers from The Network. The younger tykes really had a grand time with the school bus pinata.

There was a catered picnic lunch accompanied by music which the grandparents, and great grandparents enjoyed along with the children. It was a lovely day with the help of St. Francis Food Pantries supporters as they helped prepare the children for the new school year.

Over 200 children and their grandparents enjoyed the picnic on another beautiful day at Orchard Beach. This "Back to School Picnic" was made possible by the generous Sponsors for the event.

A delicious catered barbeque lunch was enjoyed by all, and served by great volunteers. Grand parents and great-grand parents enjoyed relaxing and spending time with each other.

There were many games set up for the children to play. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. made a surprise visit to encourage the students to do well in school.

Face painting volunteers did not need to paint smiles on children's faces! The school bus pinata was a big hit with the small children.

Dr. Kathy Gibson welcomed Borough President Diaz to the picnic.
Over 120 children received back packs filled with school supplies donated by Deb van der Hayden.
