It was a beautiful day at Orchard Beach in the Bronx for our annual "Back to School Picnic." The event was held for a group of Grandparents and their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Macy's sponsored the food for the Picnic, and Deb van der Heyden, Managing Director at Jones Lang LaSalle, sponsored the school supplies which were distributed in backpacks to all of the children. A tasty catered picnic lunch was served to the over 200 people who attended. Checkered tablecloths and balloons made the picnic site very festive, and a steel drum musician performed for the guests. Adults and children played games, danced and visited with each other the entire afternoon. The Grandparents also received special gifts for the important part they play in these families. Everyone enjoyed the Picnic and thanked St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters for a great preparation to the new school year.
