Community Programs - Annual Dinner for the Needy 2012

St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters sponsored the "Annual Dinner for the Needy" held in the Church Hall at St. John the Baptist Church in midtown Manhattan. This delicious hot meal was served to over 500 homeless and shelter residents of New York City. June Tang-How coordinated over 40 volunteers to help at the event. June and some of the volunteers prepared a large portion of the meal themselves, with help of the Friary chef at St. John's. The dinner featured a choice of a pasta or chicken and rice dinner, vegetables, salad and dessert. Guests were welcomed to sit at decorated tables and were served "restaurant style" by the dedicated volunteer "waiters." Live music added to the festive mood of the Church Hall, and many guests found themselves singing along. The guests also received donated hats, scarves, gloves and winter coats items as they left. Everyone enjoyed the food and fun while visiting with their friends during this wonderful afternoon.
